Johannesburg to KwaZulu-Natal – N5 and Clarens
The N5 leads to good things. Had we continued on it this time, we would’ve ended up in Bethlehem (I know right!) and we’re all told there’s good things to see there. I for one am a stickler for some fine Myrrh, although I’m yet to find the bush that it’s made from in this region. I hear they’re native to Yemen, and Somalia… maybe this is some kind of joke?
What isn’t a joke is the raw and awesome beauty of the Golden Gate Highlands National Park. Teaming with (wild) wildlife, this reserve is known for the brilliant red, yellow, purple and golden hues cast by the sun on the park’s highest point: a sandstone cliff dubbed Ribbokkop. And the gateway to these golden gates(ha!)? Clarens, the gem of the Free State. We’ll leave the rest to you.
