Johannesburg to KwaZulu-Natal – Oranjeville
If you time your drive, like we did, you’ll arrive in Oranjeville bang on time to watch the sun sink into the horizon on the far side of the water. From the main road, it feels like there’s too much in between you and the view, so do the right thing and follow your nose.
There’s a dirt track that leads all the way down to a gentle, grassy bank. Make this your spot for that sundowner, because here’s what you’ll be treated to:
A one-way bridge is always an exciting thing to drive on. You imagine what would happen if two trucks approached from each end, or, if at that moment, Godzilla erupted from the depths to chomp the piece of bridge in front of you away. Luckily, there are no trucks on this road (win!) and Godzilla seemed chilled. So much so in fact that we didn’t even see him. Maybe the Voortrekkers took care of that way back, when their oxen and bridges were being harassed unnecessarily.
