Johannesburg to Cape Town – Matjiesfontein
I couldn’t resist visiting this little town. It’s not really a town as much as it’s an old train station turned museum. Everything about it is beautiful and historic. The museum was closed when I visited, but it was definitely worth popping in just to walk past the Lord Milner Hotel and marvel at the antique petrol pump beside it.
The coffee house just next to the hotel served the best chicken mayo sandwich I have ever had. The bread is fresh plaasbrood and the mayo is mixed with homemade chutney – a filling, wholesome lunch that you’ll never find at a takeout shop along the highway.
