MyPanic Ride & Meet: Proactive personal safety in South Africa

Life doesn’t always happen between 8 and 5. It’s school lifts, airport runs, solo drives, work trips, ride-hailing, and those “just quickly popping out” moments. That’s exactly where MyPanic comes in.

MyPanic is a 24/7 on-demand personal security and medical assistance app that connects you to the nearest armed response or emergency medical team anywhere in South Africa. With the new Ride and Meet features, MyPanic helps protect you before an emergency happens, turning everyday journeys and meet-ups into smart, monitored safety moments.

What is MyPanic?

Before we get into the newer features, it helps to understand what MyPanic does.

MyPanic is a mobile panic app that sends trained armed responders or medical assistance directly to your GPS location at the touch of a button. If you feel unsafe, threatened, or need urgent medical help, you simply press and hold the HELP button in the app and the nearest response vehicle is sent to you, not just at home or in your car, but anywhere in South Africa.

Behind the scenes, a 24/7 control room confirms your emergency and coordinates a fast, efficient response through a national network of armed responders.

The MyPanic app includes two newer features: Ride and Meet. In this blog, the focus is on Ride.

Ride: Personal safety while you travel

MyPanic Ride lets you log a journey in the app and adds a safety net around your trip, whether it’s a short drive across town or a longer trip on the open road.

Before you leave, you set your expected travel time. From there, the MyPanic platform monitors the duration of your trip in real time, without constantly tracking or sharing your live location.

If your ride takes longer than expected or you stop responding, MyPanic can automatically trigger an alert to your chosen contacts or the 24/7 control centre, which can then begin the emergency escalation process.

Once you arrive safely, you simply confirm in the app that your trip is complete. For extra peace of mind, the control room may also call to verify your passphrase or last four digits.

In simple terms, Ride is there for those moments when someone should check that you arrived safely, especially if you can’t make that call yourself.

Everyday ways to use Ride

MyPanic Ride fits easily into everyday life. It’s made for the in-between moments, the everyday movements where things usually go fine, but where having backup in place can make all the difference.

Early-morning airport trips or late-night drives

Whether you’re heading to the airport before sunrise or driving home after a long shift, these are often the times you feel most exposed.

You open the app, start a Ride, and set how long the trip should take. The app quietly monitors the journey in the background while you drive, without sharing your live location unless there’s a problem.

If you don’t end the Ride and you don’t respond to a check-in, MyPanic can alert your chosen contacts or the control room so that help can be sent if needed.

Solo road trips and long weekend drives

If you’re driving alone to another town, visiting family, or heading away for the weekend, Ride adds an extra layer of reassurance without making the trip feel complicated.

You log the journey, set your expected arrival time, and continue with your trip as normal. If your journey takes much longer than expected, you stop moving for an unusual amount of time, or you don’t respond to a follow-up, MyPanic treats it as a possible emergency and starts the escalation process.

This can be especially useful when you’re travelling alone, driving through unfamiliar areas, or spending hours on the road without anyone knowing exactly when you should arrive.

Lift clubs, ride-hailing and student travel

Ride is also useful for those everyday transport moments that don’t always feel risky, but still deserve a little extra care.

A student heading back from campus, a teen in a lift club, or someone taking a ride-hailing trip can start a Ride before they leave. They set the expected duration, and if they forget to end the Ride and also don’t respond to a check-in, MyPanic can begin escalation and notify the control room or nominated contacts.

It’s a simple way to make sure someone is checking that the trip ends safely, without relying on someone to remember to send an “I’m home” message every time.

Travelling to unfamiliar places for work

For people who regularly drive to new areas for meetings, callouts, appointments, or client visits, Ride can act as a quiet safety back-up.

Before setting off, you start a Ride and estimate how long the trip should take. If you’re delayed far beyond that time and you don’t respond, MyPanic can treat it as a warning sign and begin the next step in the safety process.

That makes it a practical option for freelancers, consultants, technicians, reps, and anyone who often works alone on the move.

Why MyPanic Ride matters

Not every emergency gives you the chance to unlock your phone and press a panic button. Sometimes the risk is in the silence, when a trip takes too long, a check-in never happens, or something goes wrong and you can’t call for help.

That’s what makes MyPanic Ride so useful. It adds a proactive layer to personal safety by recognising when something may be wrong and helping trigger support even if you can’t do it yourself.

It’s simple to use, easy to build into everyday routines, and designed for real South African life on the move.
